Mr Isla was born in 1959 in Spain and trained as a Gastrointestinal Surgeon in Madrid (Hospital Puerta de Hierro). He moved to the UK in 1995 to gain further experience in Pancreatic Surgery working as Senior Registrar/Clinical Fellow at the HPB Unit at the Hammersmith Hospital with Professor Robin Williamson.  In 1997 was appointed Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Ealing/Hammersmith Hospitals. He is currently Consultant Laparoscopic Upper GI surgeon at St Mark's amd Northwick Park Hospitals.

Laparoscopic fundoplication. This is considered nowadays to be the most effective treatment for gastro-oesophageal reflux. Mr Isla has performed more than 400 anti-reflux procedures with a 0.25% conversion rate. Mr Isla favours the 180 degrees partial wrap, which gives less side effects with the same antireflux control

Laparoscopic Surgery London3. Laparoscopic treatment of gastro-oesophageal malignancies

Mr Isla performs minimally invasive surgery for the gastro-oesophageal malignancies. This means that oesophagectomies (removal of the oesophagus) and gastrectomies can now be done with only some small incisions in the abdomen and an incision in the neck. This procedures are now recognized by the Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE)
